Dieter Hahn is the owner of Philipp Hahn Sons (Ph. Hahn Söhne), the oldest diamond manufacturing company in Germany. He is a member of the fourth generation of his family to be involved in the diamond business.
 
A founding member of the International Diamond Council in 1975, Mr. Hahn has served in public roles for more than 40 years. Starting in 1963, he was the German delegate to the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), which he served as Treasurer-General from 1978 to 1988. In 1988, following 25 years of service, he received the title of Honorary Member of IDMA.
 

Mr. Hahn was elected to the board of directors of the Diamant-und Edelsteinbörse Idar-Oberstein in 1973. He was elected its vice president in 1982 and served as its president from 1988 to 2003. For the past 13 years, he has served as the Treasurer-General of the WFDB and a member of the federation’s Executive Committee. Mr. Hahn has also been an official of the IDC since that organization’s inception.

On the national level, from 1978 to 2002 Mr. Hahn served as a member of the board of the German Federal Association of the Gemstone and Diamond Industry and a member of its Executive Committee.

From 1989 to 1995, Mr. Hahn served as chairman of the supervisory board of the Intergem Trade Fair in Idar-Oberstein, and he continues to serve as its deputy chairman. He also serves as chairman of the Trade Advisory Board of the Inhorgenta Trade Fair in Munich.

Mr. Hahn is the recipient of the following national honors and medals of distinction: the Officer’s Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany; the Cross of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate; and the Gold Medal of Honor of the County of Birkenfeld  (the county for which Idar-Oberstein is the county seat).
